Winter Testing

KRC is noted for it’s winter testing capability and winter test courses. KRC has conducted military vehicle winter testing including traction aid development for tank tracks and tire chain testing for wheeled vehicles.

Mobility Research

In the commercial arena, KRC has tested snowmobiles for durability and performance. Most of KRC’s winter testing outside the military has been for the auto industry. These types of tests have included snow packing (snow ingestion) and vehicle mobility or vehicle dynamics.

Snow Lot

KRC has conducted tire handling and performance tests, either subjective or objective (with instrumentation). We also work with other companies such as Mobility Research Incorporated (MRI) to conduct winter tire spin up longitudinal traction testing in accordance with ASTM F1805.

Other vehicle testing includes traction control, stability control and drive train evaluations on ice and snow surfaces.

With our long winter season and large annual snowfall, our test course is used for three months per year on average for almost any type of ground vehicle winter test.
